This is a fun teaching tool that helps you demonstrate the job of the pancreas. This pillow is soft and stuffed. The beta cells are represented by sparkly balls of different sizes. One side of the pancreas has the expected amount of beta cells, while the other side only has a fraction of the expected cells to demonstrate the natural history of diabetes and beta cell loss.

A great teaching tool when demonstrating the normal function of basal and bolus insulin. Kids, adults and health care professionals love the Pancreas Partner.

Each Pancreas Partner is unique and hand crafted from donated traditional African fabrics. For this reason, material and beta cell color will vary. Thank you for your purchase and contribution to Just One Person.

Building Bridges – Women Helping Women from Kenya to California

The Story of the Pancreas Pillows
Kenya is where our story starts - Young women, who are part of the Just One Person organization, sew hundreds of pancreas shells using a treadle sewing machine and indigenous cloth. The girls are pictured here having fun balancing the pancreases on their heads.

From Kenya the pancreas shells are shipped to Diabetes Education Services in California.

Pancreas Partners

The young women from Kenya are paid to sew and stuff the pancreases. Plus, all profits after the sale of the pancreases are contributed back to Just One Person.  To date, Diabetes Education Services has donated over $25,000 to Just One person. We are proud to be a part of this collective of women, working hard to build a brighter future for generations to come.

In addition to sponsoring girls to attend college, the future mission of Just One Person is to build a girls’ resource center to reach more girls than by individual sponsorships. Besides attending school, the students are requesting ongoing workshops, especially the following;

  • Making reusable sanitary napkins(one of our alumni has developed a program that she has given several times to different groups of girls
  • Health and reproductive issues
  • Computer skills
  • Research and applications to post-secondary colleges and universities.

Customers often purchase the complete teaching package of the Pancreas Partner plus DiaCell. See below to learn more!
